Depending on the industrial application, companies can even purchase screens that are double reinforced and spot welded on both the seams and end margins. Often, stainless steel mesh is standard in all industrial strainers, but some can come in bronze, titanium, copper, or different alloys. Along with material composition, screens can have a wide variety of perforation sizes and the thickness of the metal itself. Perforations often range from 0.030 to 0.250, contingent upon metal thickness. If a company requires a strainer for extra fine sifting, reinforced screens with perforated wire mesh are highly suggested.
Strainers can be installed with magnets to help provide protection from abrasive damage. Iron and steel present in fluids can cause a great deal of damage to mechanical devices. The number of magnets in a strainer is also dependent upon the size of the strainer. For example, a strainer ranging from 8”-10” can hold 4 magnets, while a strainer that is 16”-18” inches can be equipped with up to 5 magnets.
You can select a screen that also has reinforcing bands. Reinforcing bands add permanency and vigor to stainless steel screen mesh and baskets. It is recommended to add reinforcing bands to strainers tasked with straining conditions that have higher than average pressure drops.
Several different screen options also allow you to change the net free area ration of your strainer. There is a specialized formula to use in order to figure out which ratio is the proper fit for your system. Formula is as follows
